Track 1: “Leaps of Faiths” Film Excerpts Viewing and Discussion with David Kovacs (GYM)
Introducing “Leaps of Faiths” — a new ground-breaking documentary about interfaith marriage
Sunday, October 20
Leaps of Faiths explores what happens when love is tested by faith, and faith is tested by love, in interfaith couples and families. How are they raising their children? What do they feel about their faith – and their partner’s? And in a world that’s increasingly polarized and tribal, does religion divide, or can it help people cross borders? As multi-culturalism abounds in the U.S., 80% of Reform Jews who married from 2013-2018 intermarried, and a majority of American Jews today are partnered with someone of a different cultural or religious background. A Jew and a Christian may have grown up looking at the other faith as “over there” or “the other” … but when they fall in love, that’s no longer possible. They’re family, and that’s when things get really interesting.
Since it premiered at the JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival and on WTTW (PBS in Chicago) Leaps of Faiths has reached over 25,000 people. It features Steve and Cokie Roberts, Susan Katz Miller and interfaith clergy and families from Chicago area interfaith education programs.
