THE INTERFAITH FAMILIES PROJECT OF GREATER WASHINGTON TO HOST ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR

ROCKVILLE, MD – On Sunday, Feb. 9th, at 11:00 a.m., the Interfaith Families Project of Greater Washington (IFFP) is pleased to host an Environmental Fair, sponsored by IFFP’s Environmental Working Group (EWG) Tikkun Olam group.  Tikkun Olam is Hebrew, and means to “repair the world.” The Fair will offer booths on the following topics:

  • GreenFaith: IFFP is on a two-year path toward becoming a GreenFaith-certified community.  Gary Gardner from GreenFaith (https://greenfaith.org/#) will be available to provide information about GreenFaith.  Gary is a researcher, writer, and speaker on global sustainability issues, and a hands-on program director.  He has authored short- and long-form pieces on sustainability challenges at the Worldwatch Institute. Gary has spoken at global conferences sponsored by institutions ranging from the United Nations to the Vatican.
  • Light Bulb Swap:  A staff person from the Energy, Climate, & Compliance Division of Montgomery County’s Dept. of Environmental Protection will be available to swap three (3) older generation bulbs with 3 free LED bulbs.  Bring 3 older generation light bulbs to swap.
  • Solar Electricity: Randy Gibson will share steps on going solar, and will be joined by Solar United Neighbors, a national organization dedicated to representing the needs and interests of solar owners and supporters. “We’re a community of people building a new energy system with rooftop solar at the cornerstone. We help people go solar, join together, and fight for their energy rights. They are organizing a Montgomery County solar co-op and will answer your nuts and bolts questions on how and why to go solar.
  • EV Cars: Joyce Breiner of Poolesville Green and Scott Miller of the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater DC – both electric vehicle owners and very active in the push to make electric vehicles more accessible the greater DC area – will be joining us to answer your questions about owning and operating an electric car.   And after owning the Chevy Bolt for a year now, Phil Jakobsberg will also be there to offer his personal perspective, entitled ‘IFFP Membership and EV Ownership – the Perfect Union’
  • Composting: An environmental health professional will explain the benefits of composting, demonstrate how to compost, show you what compost becomes, share “pro tips” on this most excellent action you can take for the earth and will answer all your questions.  Resources of local curbside composting companies will be provided.
  • Water and RainScapes:  A representative from the Dept. of Environmental Protection will have information for creating environmentally-friendly landscapes for healthier watersheds in addition to ideas and inspirations for household water conservation.
  • Becoming Active:  Information about organizations and ways to become involved.

Location:  The adult group meeting will be held at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, 1901 E Jefferson St, Rockville, MD 20852.
